| Alfred Kpebesaane is a gifted percussionist from the Tuole family in the northern part of Ghana, West Africa. He is a performer and instructor of African music and dance and a talented player of his main instrument called the gyil (xylophone), which originates from the Dagara tribe in northwestern Ghana. Alfred also plays and performs with many traditional instruments from southern Ghana. At the age of twelve, he played and performed during the moonlight dance and at elementary and government schools. HIs teachers include Sulley Imoro, Dagomba dancer and drummer; Francis Akua, hand drumming; Kakraba Lobi, gyil player; and Bernard Woma, xylophonist. Alfred has taught and performed at the School of Performing Arts at the University of Ghana (Legon), Williams College, Bowling Green State University, Berklee College of Music and Ithaca College. He has toured and performed at workshops and festivals both nationally and internationally including Burkina Faso and the United States, and is also a member of the Mbangba Cultural Troupe.
